Quartzite - Madre Perola

Quartzite, like Marble, is a sedimentary metamorphic rock. What sets them apart is that while Marble is a metamorphosis of Limestone, Quartzite comes from Sandstone. The color of pure quartzite ranges between white to gray. Pink and red shading occurs due to varying amounts of iron oxide. Other mineral impurities may give rise to varying shades of yellow to burnt orange. Quartzite is NOT Quartz – as Quartzite is a Natural Stone, and Quartz is man-made or engineered stone.

Very often Quartzite gets “wrongly” classified as either granite or marble. The reason for this is that Quartzite is marginally harder than Granite (on the Moh’s scale), and far less porous than Marble – almost close to the porosity of Granite, but with the glamour of Marble.

These properties make Quartzite a much sought after material, as a substitute for Marble, especially for cladding and countertop applications in high-wear and work areas.
